From Yakima, follow SR 24 for 38.4 miles to the junction with SR 240. Take a left toward Othello, crossing the Columbia River and veering right soon after, continue following SR 24 toward Othello. Drive 19 miles to an unsigned gravel road. Turn right and drive 4 miles to a 4-way intersection. Turn right and find the parking area in 1.3 miles near the boat launch. View Google Directions >>
This short jaunt is an excellent introduction to the Handford Reach area. The area is home to a surprising variety of wildflowers and flowering plants. At the same time, the shifting sand dunes are a treat to visit and the expansive landscape dominated by the rolling Columbia. Beyond the natural beauty, the trail wanders through areas that were once part of the bustling community of White Bluffs.
