Fremont Lookout from Sunrise Trailhead

Climb follow ridgelines and traverse naked slopes on your way up to a historic fire lookout, with incredible trailside views along the way.

Drive to Sunrise Road, located 36.4 miles east to Enumclaw and 7.1 miles west of Chinook Pass. Turn west onto Sunrise Road, following it 15.5 miles to Sunrise and the parking area. The trailhead is located at the west end of the lot. Privy available. View Google Directions >>
From the Sunrise parking area follow the signs pointing toward Fremont Lookout, near the west end of the lot. Follow the paved nature path uphill for a few hundred feet to a well-signed junction and veer right, joining a wide gravel path that gently climbs up through Yakima Park’s meadowlands toward Sourdough Ridge. Keep left at the fork to reach the ridgeline passing colorful trailside wildflowers set against Rainier’s bright-white glaciers and snowfields.
