St. Helens has such a long history, that I needed narrow things down and go with a theme. I went with recorded history, which is where the 400 year mark comes from. Nice writing style. I was poking around for Worm Flow photos &amp; came across your post. <br /><br />The pre-1980 eruptions were not necessarily small compared the the 1980 one. Although you are correct that those from the last 400 years were smaller, that is an arbitrary cut-off. The eruption of 1479/1480 was several times larger, and the eruption of 1482 was at least the same size.
