To get there, take I-90 to Exit 45, going under the freeway to Forest Road 9030. Follow FR 9030 for about a mile until the road splits. Veer left onto FR 9031 and follow it for two more miles until the road terminates in a parking lot. Put out your Northwest Forest Pass and hit the trail. View Google Directions >>
From the trailhead, follow the Ira Spring (Mason Lake) Trail #1038 along repurposed logging road. At 1.5 miles, leave the road and begin the hike in earnest; the grade sharpens and begins a series of tight switchbacks. At 2.9 miles reach a junction with the Bandera Mountain Trail #1038.1 begins. Keep right here, continuing to traverse the mountain’s shoulders. Follow the rocky path to the top of Little Bandera Mountain at 3.4 miles and a sprawling vista.
